New Zealand border boost for travelling fans

Rally New Zealand organisers are thrilled with the news that international fans will be welcomed into the country when the FIA World Rally Championship returns later this year.

The event will be one of the first major international sporting events to be staged in New Zealand since Wednesday’s announcement by the Government that pandemic border restrictions will be lifted.

The 11th round of the series will be based in and around Auckland on the North Island from 29 September to 2 October.

“The FIA World Rally Championship will bring close to 1,000 competitors, team personnel, media and organisers to New Zealand. With the news today that the border will be open, we can’t wait to welcome motorsport fans from around the world to Auckland,” said Rally New Zealand CEO Michael Goldstein.

“We have a specialist Rally Tours partner and encourage our international fans to get in contact so they can make plans to watch the world’s best drivers compete on the world’s best rally roads.

“Our many staff and volunteers have been working so hard and now we have certainty that the event is not only going to happen, but there will be fans lining the roads.”

The WRC last visited New Zealand in 2012. The event was due to return in 2020 but Covid-19 forced it to be cancelled.

Fans planning to attend the rally can purchase tickets and VIP packages directly from Rally New Zealand.

Limited Rally Gold Pass tickets to Rally New Zealand are available now here and international fans are encouraged to check here.
