So, to come out of round two of the FIA World Rally Championship on the back of a pair of top-five results is a reason to be cheerful for the M-Sport Ford driver.
Greensmith is leading the team’s charge in fourth place in the championship. That is realistically third because team-mate Sébastien Loeb sits one place above and he’s not doing the whole series.
He’s doing that despite what he felt was a disappointing start to last month’s Rally Sweden in his hybrid-powered Ford Puma Rally1.
“I just didn’t hook it up on the first day in Sweden,” said Greensmith. “I don’t know what it was, I’d done the rally in Norway the week before and everything was looking good. I felt relaxed, but it just didn’t work. That one was on me.
“When we got to the weekend I could do a bit of a reset and from Saturday morning there were no mistakes – I was happier about that.”
Fifth in the French Alps and Scandinavia marked his best results at both rallies and he’s happy about where he’s at going into the break between Sweden and round three in Croatia.
“Those two rallies we’ve done were my toughest rounds this year,” he said. “I’ve struggled with them in the past and if you’d told me that I was heading for two fifths and a de facto third in the championship, I would have taken that and been happy with that.
“Sweden was a tough one for the team, but the car’s good. Craig [Breen] was able to win a stage and we’re looking forward to Croatia. Like I said, Friday in Sweden was disappointing for me, myself, but I’ve always been quite self-critical on these things.”
