WATCH: Fourmaux and Coria have lucky escape

Adrien Fourmaux’s bid for Rallye Monte-Carlo success came to a violent end on Friday morning’s opening speed test when the Frenchman crashed his Ford Puma into a ravine.

The M-Sport Ford driver, lying fourth after Thursday night’s short opening leg, matched leader Sébastien Ogier’s split times to the tenth of a second until it all went wrong after 12.1km of the Roure / Beuil special stage.

Fourmaux drifted wide on a left corner and the Puma smacked into a rock face before rebounding back across the road, over a barrier and plunged down the hillside. The car came to rest with significant damage, particularly to the rear. Happily both Fourmaux and co-driver Alex Cora escaped injury.

Happily both Fourmaux and co-driver Alex Coria escaped injury, testament to the enhanced safety cell chassis introduced to the new hybrid-powered Rally1 cars this year.
