WRC3: Cerny sets tempo in Fiesta battle

Jan Černý set a sizzling early pace to lead the WRC3 category on Thursday at Rallye Monte-Carlo.

The Czech driver caught his rivals napping when he pulled out a huge 17.1sec advantage over the 15.2km opening stage.

A second stage win followed at La Bollène-Vésubie / Moulinet, leaving Černý to head up the field of identical M-Sport Poland Ford Fiesta Rally3 cars by a comfortable 21.2sec.

Flying Finn and reigning FIA Junior WRC champion Sami Pajari was Černý’s closest challenger. He was second fastest on both tests and held a massive 1min 21.19sec over third-placed Enrico Brazzoli.

Hungarian pilot Zoltán László trailed the leaders by 3min 36.7sec to complete the leaderboard in fourth.
