Adamo demands errors must stop

Hyundai Motorsport director Andrea Adamo has challenged his team to up its game for next week’s Rally Turkey (12 - 15 October).

The Italian was frustrated by last month’s ADAC Rallye Deutschland result and admitted the time had come to stop making mistakes.

For the second rally in succession Toyota Gazoo Racing closed the gap on manufacturer series leader Hyundai, cutting the Korean firm’s advantage to eight points from the 44-point lead Adamo’s squad took into the mid-season break following Dani Sordo’s Sardinia victory.

In the aftermath of the Bostalsee-based event, Adamo said: “This is another occasion where we have wasted a good opportunity. We have to be in control of our own destiny and that means being high performing and reliable in every single area of our operation.

“We can’t wait for others to have problems to get results. This is not how we should come rallying or racing. So, in summary, our car performance in Germany has been good but our team performance has not. We have to do better.”

Asked what changes he would make for Turkey, Adamo replied: “It’s not just Turkey, it’s all the events in the future where we have to show we’ve learned from our mistakes. It’s about procedures, controls, the organisation and a better understanding and enforcing of some points.

“My team has done some amazing things so far, but the level of performance has to be improved. We have had some small issues and these have let Toyota back in. If we take points instead of these small issues then things would look very different.

“There is no room, nor excuse, for even the smallest error,” he added.
