DJI Quote of the Year

We throw the spotlight on the best one-liners from the WRC's big names in search of the DJI Quote of the Year to be awarded at the championship's star-studded Sydney gala this month.

After fighting for every tenth of a second during a flat-out blast through a tough special stage, the first thing crews see at the finish is a WRC All Live reporter brandishing a microphone.

The adrenaline-fuelled soundbites that follow can often be witty, emotional or angry as drivers struggle to make sense of the previous minutes at the wheel.

For the last of our WRC Gala Night award categories, we’ve selected four of the best comments in the video below. All you need to do is choose your favourite and cast your vote to decide the DJI Quote of the Year.

The nominees are…

Mads Østberg’s wet weather struggles in Italy
When heavy rain fell on the Tula stage, the conditions quickly deteriorated as more cars passed through the gravel test. Starting 10th, Østberg struggled in the mud and standing water, but still managed a witty retort at the finish.

Craig Breen’s high-flying Finland
Neste Rally Finland is famed for its high speeds and big jumps. After a cautious first pass of the Tuohikotanen test, Breen nailed his Citroën C3’s throttle a lot harder during the second run. The result was a lot more air time – and an unexpected crack on the head.

Ott Tänak’s Spanish dominance
The Toyota driver was on a charge in Spain as he fought to keep his title bid alive. He made an impressively strong start, going 2.5sec faster than anyone else on Friday’s opening Gandesa test. However, he wasn’t prepared to disclose the secret of his success at stage end.

Jari-Matti Latvala’s Italy frustration
The Finn has impeccable manners and is always careful to mind his language – even after suffering huge disappointment. Pushing as hard as he dared in Sardinia, Latvala was frustrated to lose 2.4sec to the leader on the Tergu - Osilo test. However, he still managed to self-censor his thoughts when presented with a microphone.

The DJI Quote of the Year Award winner will be announced during the prestigious gala, which follows the final round at Kennards Hire Rally Australia (15 - 18 November).

More than 250 guests, including drivers, co-drivers, team bosses, senior officials, city personalities and government representatives will celebrate at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art, across the water from the famous Opera House, on Monday 19 November.

While casting your vote you will also be entered into our competition to win one of three fantastic annual subscriptions to our WRC+ All Live interactive digital service, worth 89.99 euros.

The lucky winners won’t miss a minute of the 2019 WRC, with coverage of every special stage from all 14 rounds, expert analysis from the WRC TV studio, interviews and reactions from across the service park, on-demand highlights, live timing, onboard videos and more.

This is the last of our award categories. But remember, voting remains open for all categories until 22.00 CET on Monday 12 November, so you still have plenty of time to pick your favourites!
