Premiere for Tänak film
A film documenting Ott Tänak’s pursuit of the WRC drivers’ title in 2018 will premiere in Estonian capital Tallinn on Thursday evening.
Ott Tänak – The Movie charts the ups and downs of the 31-year-old’s season as he took on Sébastien Ogier and Thierry Neuville in a gripping battle for the crown.
A film crew followed Tänak during the season, gaining rare behind-the-scenes access of the Estonian’s bid as he simultaneously became accustomed to his Yaris World Rally Car during his first campaign with Toyota Gazoo Racing.
“The purpose of the film was for everything to be recorded the way life really is. There is no acting and I wasn’t being more polite because of the camera,” said Tänak.
In parallel with his topsy-turvy season, the film reveals how Tänak broke into the WRC elite against the odds, focusing not only on his successes but also his defeats.
“Just like last year, as we know, my whole career hasn’t been the most boring one,” he added.
The Sterotek Film documentary, produced by Eero Nõgene and directed by Tarvo Mölder, features contributions from a host of characters across the WRC service park, including mentor Markko Märtin, Malcolm Wilson, boss at Tänak’s former M-Sport team, and Toyota Gazoo principal Tommi Mäkinen.
Team-mates Jari-Matti Latvala and Esapekka Lappi, nine-time world champion Sébastien Loeb and Ogier also contribute, along with WRC+ All Live commentators Becs Williams, Molly Pettit and Colin Clark.
