Here’s what makes him special

• An experienced cross-country and stage rally driver, 2016 will be his first season at the wheel of a World Rally Car

• Out of the car Al-Rajhi is a successful businessman and boss of the Jan Burger fast food empire in Saudi Arabia

• He has a taste for exotic supercars and his daily driver is a Pagani Huayra

The story so far

Al-Rajhi began his driving career in 2007 on stage and cross-country rallies in the Middle East, learning his craft in this tough environment over the next two seasons.

He won two rounds of the Middle East Rally Championship in a Peugeot 207 S2000 in both 2009 and 2010, accompanied by French co-driver Matthieu Baumel.

The focus shifted to the WRC in 2011, but results were disappointing and he only finished one of the seven rounds he started.

A nine-round SWRC programme followed in 2012, and a switch to the new Fiesta RRC and a new co-driving partnership with Michael Orr turned his fortunes around and took him to third in the title race.

His 2013 season got off to a great start with a WRC 2 win in Sweden, but he was then forced to take three months off after breaking two vertebrae in a cross country rally crash in Saudi Arabia.

He returned in Finland and performed strongly for the rest of the season, taking second in Spain and ending the year fifth in the standings.

He showed great pace in 2014 to lead WRC 2 in Sweden, Italy and Australia but third in Poland was his only podium as results did not match his speed.

He stayed in WRC 2 for 2015 but was again unable to convert his rapid pace into decent results - achieving only one finish.

For 2016 Al-Rajhi will step up a gear, swapping his RRC spec Fiesta for a World Rally Car and tackling a programme of six rounds at the sport's highest level.
