Anttila partnered 13 fellow Finnish drivers, including Janne Tuohino, Kosti Katajamäki and Mikko Hirvonen before joining forces with Jari-Matti Latvala in 2003.
After starting in local rallies, in 1995 he answered a newspaper advertisement seeking interest in a coaching school for co-drivers. His reputation grew and in 1999 he struck up a partnership with Janne Tuohino, with whom he finished eighth on his WRC debut in Finland.
In 2002 he joined forces with Hirvonen, winning the F2 class in the Finnish championship, before linking up with Latvala. Anttila guided him through several seasons of learning in WRC before they stepped up to a full programme with the Stobart VK M-Sport team in 2007.
They won their first WRC rally in 2008 with Ford’s senior squad and two years later finished runners-up in the championship.
After seven wins with the Blue Oval, they left for Volkswagen in 2013. They shared five wins in a Polo R en route to third in the championship in 2013 and second in 2014 and 2015.
A disappointing 2016 ended with the German squad’s unexpected WRC exit, and Anttila takes his place alongside Latvala in the new Toyota Gazoo Racing squad in 2017.
So committed is Anttila to his co-driving career that he missed the birth of his second child in order to contest Rally RACC - Rally de Espana in 2011!
