Al-Attiyah to return
in "fantastic" Skoda

Nasser Al-Attiyah has confirmed a further outing in Skoda's Fabia R5 this season after a successful debut in the car on ADAC Rallye Deutschland.

The Qatari had driven only Ford Fiestas in the WRC since 2013 and won the 2014 WRC 2 title at the wheel of an RRC spec car. But earlier this month Al-Attiyah announced he would switch to Skoda's new Fabia R5 that was launched in July.

And while his German debut didn't go to plan - with a crash on the opening morning - his subsequent recovery to fourth convinced him to sort another drive in the car at RallyRACC Catalunya-Costa Daurada in October.

"It's a fantastic car and I really like it," Al-Attiyah told wrc.com. "Compared to the RRC car you get the sense that it's very much a new generation of car. We also had great support from Skoda who were checking how we were getting on."

Shipping schedules will prevent Al-Attiyah from taking the Skoda to the next round in Australia, but it will be back in Spain and maybe for the final round too.

"We don't have the option for the Skoda in Australia because everything has been sent, so we will be back in the Fiesta RRC. But we will drive the Skoda in the MERC round in Lebanon and then in Spain. Depending on how the championship looks after Spain we might have it again in GB," he said.
