Louw, from South Africa, dedicated much of his life to rallying, having first become involved in the sport through his father before going on to hold a number of senior organisational and safety roles. His career included positions as Logistics Coordinator for the South African Rally Championship, SA National Rally Administrator and Championship Clerk of the Course.
In 2020, Louw was appointed by the FIA Safety Department as FIA Safety Delegate for Africa, working closely with organisers, ASNs, marshals and safety teams to help raise standards across the continent.
His work was especially significant during the period leading up to Safari Rally Kenya’s return to the WRC. From 2019, Louw played an important role in helping strengthen safety measures on the event, working with the ASN, organisers, marshals and officials as the rally developed the systems and procedures required for the world championship.
Through training, guidance and hands-on support, he helped reinforce the Safari’s safety structure and contributed to bringing the event up to WRC standard.
Everyone at WRC Promoter extends its sincere condolences to William’s family, friends and colleagues, as well as the wider African motorsport community.
