Hannu Mikkola was part of the great generation of Finns who held the WRC title in an iron grip through much of the 1980s. He was synonymous with throwing a two-wheel drive Ford Escort sideways at remarkable angles, but claimed his only title in an Audi Quattro in 1983. He shares the record for Rally Finland wins with Marcus Grönholm – both have seven victories.
