The Quarter-Finals enters its final day, with arguably the most anticipated of the match-ups as Tommi Mäkinen goes up against Carlos Sainz.

It took Tommi Mäkinen a while to become established in the WRC, but having reached the top he proved unbeatable. Mäkinen won four consecutive titles with Mitsubishi between 1996 and 1999, and 18 of his 24 WRC victories came during that period. He hung up his helmet in 2003 after winning his home event in Finland on five occasions.

Carlos Sainz is one of the WRC’s most consistent performers. El Matador won 26 rallies and claimed two titles, but also finished second or third in the championship on a remarkable nine occasions. He finished on the podium in almost half the rallies in which he competed. Sainz left nothing to chance in his rally preparations and his attention to detail was astonishing.
