The Finn, who lists his countryman and ex-Formula 1 world champion Kimi Räikkönen as his childhood hero, says his M-Sport Ford Fiesta World Rally Car will provide a stunning spectacle on the northern Italian track at ACI Rally Monza (4 - 6 December).
Suninen said: “I have a background from the racing, so it’s great to get back to the racetrack and especially with these cars, it’s going to be so good.
“These cars are really capable for those kind of tracks – especially with this level of aero and this much power. You start to really feel it in the GP track.”
Suninen was winning karting titles in Finland at the age of eight and rose to European Championship level. While he never raced at Monza, Suninen did compete at the Monza Rally Show two years ago, finishing second to event expert Valentino Rossi.
“That was one of the best events I’ve ever been to with rally cars,” added Suninen. “It will be different now as a WRC event, it will be a proper rally, but it was a really good atmosphere - so well organised as a show.
“We had a stage every two or three hours, so we had time to analyse the driving and set-up, time to be with the fans and give good PR time. It was really relaxed and good fun to drive.
“And the action on the track was interesting to, it would be nice to have some of that dicing for the corners. I believe I can be fast in the GP track. I hope I can use my skills there.”
