Britain's WRC round called off

The penultimate round of this year’s FIA World Rally Championship in Britain will not take place due to the global Coronavirus pandemic.

Continued concerns over Covid-19 and the current restrictions on large-scale gatherings and international travel prompted Wales Rally GB organisers to today (9 June) cancel their event, due to be held on 29 October - 1 November.

David Richards, chairman of Rally GB organiser Motorsport UK, said there were too many unknown factors to make the organisation of the rally a realistic or responsible option in such uncertain times.

“This is not a decision that we have taken lightly but, in close consultation with our chief funding partner the Welsh Government, it is sadly one we are obliged to make in light of the ongoing global coronavirus pandemic.

“We have been closely monitoring the guidance issued by Government and it is becoming increasingly clear that it is impossible to make plans with any certainty for such major events in the autumn,” Richards added.
