Undeterred by a lack of gravel experience, the Frenchman cruised to the end of the day without dramas to claim a 23.0sec lead in his Ford Fiesta R5.
“Honestly, I was just trying to be comfortable and be careful in the places where it was rough. The pace notes weren't so bad for our first time here. Let’s see - the rally is very long," said Fourmaux.

Eyvind Brynildsen was second in a Skoda Fabia Rally2. It was clear to see how much the Norwegian was enjoying his second outing of the year despite taking a slightly conservative approach on the opening Içmeler speed test.
“The conditions are the same for everybody, but I was more controlled and faster on this one I think. I am going to try and keep staying on the road because it's such good fun!”
Pontus Tidemand had high hopes of a win this weekend to try and bolster his championship hopes. However, a rear-left puncture means the Skoda man will have his work cut out on Saturday and he trails Fourmaux by 24.2sec.
