Yates returns to final, sets up date with Johnston

eSports WRC Shootout defending champion Rhys Yates will defend his title on Sunday night against Sean Johnston, after securing a spot in the final of the Vodafone Rally de Portugal eSports WRC Shootout.

In Saturday night’s semi-finals, which were streamed live around the world to thousands of fans on Facebook and YouTube, M-Sport Ford WRC 2 competitor Yates ended the run of Miguel Oliveira, who was joining the Shootout, played on WRC 8, from the world of MotoGP.

The Brit put in a sligthly nervous run of Amarante to set a time of 6min 37.103sec, just over 12 seconds clear of Oliveira who was not only joining from another discipline but was also the last remaining Portuguese driver in the competition.

On the other side of the draw, a roll would deny Bulacia his chance to exact revenge over Yates, with his path to the final coming to an abrupt halt at the hands of a lightning-quick Johnston. Johnston, who is debuting in the eSports WRC Shootout, set a time of 6min 22.120sec on the Amarante test.

You can watch the final of the Shootout live on Facebook.com/WRC and YouTube.com/WRC at 21:00 CET, Sunday night (24 May).
