Frenchman Rossi, back for this third season in WRC3 in a Ford Fiesta Rally3, is aiming to complete a full podium of Rallye Monte-Carlo finishes, having finished second on the same event in 2024 and third last year.
He was already given a golden opportunity to achieve that on Thursday night when his closest rival, reigning champion Matteo Fontana, went off in the middle of the rally’s second stage. With no fans close by, the Italian was left stranded in his Fiesta and forced to restart on Friday morning with a 10min penalty.
Already with a three-minute leader over fellow Frenchman Eric Royére, Rossi was content to leave Fontana collecting stage wins across Friday, opting for a low-risk approach to instead conserve his lead which only continued to grow.
A fascinating battle for the remaining spots on the podium is set to play out on Saturday with Fontana astonishingly cutting the gap between himself and Royère from nearly 20 minutes at the beginning of Friday to less than three minutes by the completion of the day’s action. It leaves the Italian in perfect position to work his way into second.
Also in the mix and holding onto third spot, for now, is another Frenchman, Jean Christophe Guibert, making his WRC3 debut.
