WRC to stay in the home of rallying

Neste Rally Finland has signed a new agreement with WRC Promoter to keep the event as part of the FIA World Rally Championship until 2018.

Finland is seen as the spiritual home of rallying, and the rally has a reputation as one of the most spectacular events in the world with super-fast gravel stages and huge jumps.

Tatu Lehmuskallio, Managing Director of AKK Sports said: “We are delighted that we were able to sign this new agreement and that we are able to provide these great experiences to both Finnish and international rally fans.”

WRC Promoter managing director Oliver Ciesla [below right] emphasised the importance of keeping Finland in the calendar.

“Finland has been a part of the WRC since the championship began in 1973 and the blistering speeds and dramatic rollercoaster roads give the event its deserved reputation as one of the championship’s classic rounds,” said Ciesla.

“But Rally Finland is about much more than just the stages. AKK provides an innovative fan experience and the number of families visiting the service park in Jyväskylä this weekend underlines the tremendous effort that has been put into developing that. We look forward to developing our partnership further.”
