Fresh start for Bertelli in 2016
Lorenzo returns with M-Sport support
Finding potential photographic points pre-event, identifying safe but spectacular places from which to shoot, calculating the available light and the angle of the sun are all part of obtaining that special image which tells the story of a WRC rally.
We asked two of our photographers, Estonia’s Jaanus Ree and Portugal’s Andre Lavadinho, to identify their favourite images of the season and we’re publishing them in a four-part series beginning today.
We start with four of Ree’s selection and will publish four more from him tomorrow. Next week we’ll bring you Lavadinho’s choices.
If you want to see more of Ree’s work then visit his website here or his Facebook page here.
Our headline photograph (above) shows Elfyn Evans splashing through the 5.55km Llano Grande shakedown at Rally Guanajuato Mexico. The Welshman finished 10th in the warm-up for the third round in M-Sport’s Ford Fiesta RS.
The image above shows Kris Meeke en route to his maiden WRC success at XION Rally Argentina in April. Ree took this shot in the final rocky and rugged El Condor Power Stage, high in the Traslasierra mountains. The DS 3 driver became the first Briton to win a WRC round since Richard Burns in 2002.
The dramatic scenery of Rally Italia Sardegna is seen in Ree’s photograph below. It shows Poland’s Robert Kubica kicking up the dust in the Putifigari shakedown stage, in which the Fiesta RS pilot finished seventh.
And finally Ree has selected this shot of Sébastien Ogier’s Volkswagen Polo R at LOTOS 72nd Rally Poland. It was taken in the first pass of the opening leg’s Stanczyki test as the Frenchman collected third fastest time en route to his fifth victory in the first seven rallies.
