WRC legends in Germany

A galaxy of ex-WRC superstars will be back behind the wheel of classic rally cars at ADAC Rallye Deutschland on Saturday (23 August).

Former world champions Stig Blomqvist, Hannu Mikkola, Ari Vatanen, Juha Kankkunen and Timo Salonen are among yesterday’s heroes who will drive the Arena Panzerplatte’s roads at the Baumholder military area.

Panzerplatte hosts the biggest spectator area of the three-day event and tens of thousands of fans will have the opportunity to see flame-spitting Group B rally cars from the 1980s.

Hannu Mikkola will appear in Germany

The stars of the past will take to the roads from 13.00 - 14.00, between the two competitive passes over the Baumholder tests. They will stop at several spectator points to meet fans and sign autographs.

Joining the ex-champions will be Michèle Mouton, Per Eklund, Armin Schwarz, Harald Demuth, Kalle Grundel, Dieter Depping and Klaus Fritzinger, as well as former Le Mans legend Jacky Ickx.

Among the classic machinery will be Audi S1, Audi A2 quattro, Audi 200 quattro ‘Safari’, Volkswagen Rallye Golf G60, MG Metro 6R4, Toyota Celica Turbo and Toyota Corolla WRC cars.

The drivers will also appear on the stage at the Trier service park at 19.45 to give fans another opportunity to collect their signatures.
