VW's 2017 Polo R takes on Baumholder

Success on home ground was a long time coming for Volkswagen Motorsport, so it's no surprise to see next year's Polo R already racking up test kilometres in ADAC Rallye Deutschland territory.

Until last year, Germany was the only championship round that the Wolfsburg-based manufacturer had not won since it entered the competition in 2013. But that all changed in August when Sébastien Ogier, Jari-Matti Latvala and Andreas Mikkelsen set the record straight with all-VW podium.

Key to success was a 100 per cent winning record on the stages in the military training ground at Baumholder - the location for the team's latest test of its all-new 2017 Polo R.

Test and development driver Dieter Depping completed about 150 kilometres on roads close to the notorious Panzerplatte stages and lined with identical huge concrete blocks called hinkelstein.

The team says the two-time German rally champion, who was involved in the development of the first generation Polo R WRC, worked through the test programme without any problems and was full of praise for the handling of the new 380bhp car.
