The WRC gallery Round 8: Finland

Neste Rally Finland is arguably the most spectacular event on the WRC calendar. Therefore, the images that come from the rally generally stick in the memory for a long, long time.
Here is a selection of some of our favourite photographs from Finland, courtesy of wrc.com snappers Jaanus Ree and At-World’s Andre Lavadinho.
Fields of gold?
Jari-Matti Latvala’s hopes of taking his third consecutive victory on home soil were scuppered by Kris Meeke’s impressive speed and the need to score some valuable points for Volkswagen’s manufacturers’ championship charge.

Tears of joy
Taking the first podium of his fledgling WRC career was too much for Craig Breen as he crossed the SS24 finish line in Citroën’s DS 3 WRC. This was a moment of pure, raw emotion.

Cabin fever
As a country that has more than 1000 lakes (hence the event’s former name), a boat is often a good vantage point to view the action on the stages.

Crazy crests
Finland’s forests echoed to the sound of World Rally Cars bouncing off the rev limiters as they rode the many crests that are scattered along the route.

Flat out
This photograph captures why Finland’s forest stages are loved by all the crews that compete on them. They’re often straight and fast. Very fast.

Fanatical Finns
WRC fans traveled from far and wide to see the best drivers in the world put on a spectacular show. Predictably, many of them were rooting for their local heroes.
