Tänak rolls in GB test

Ott Tänak rolled his Ford Fiesta RS test car yesterday (Thursday) during preparations for next month’s Wales Rally GB (12 - 15 November).

M-Sport said the Estonian was on the final run of his opening day’s testing at its private location in Greystoke Forest, near its Dovenby Hall base in the UK, when the accident happened in muddy conditions. The damage was cosmetic only and Tänak returned to the wheel for a second day’s testing today (Friday).

• Eighteen World Rally Cars have been entered for next month’s final round of the FIA World Rally Championship.

In addition to the manufacturer entries, Hyundai has registered a fourth i20 for Kevin Abbring (below) and Stéphane Lefebvre will be in a DS 3 with the Citroën squad. Henning Solberg is listed in a Ford Fiesta RS along with Irish brothers Josh and Sam Moffett, both also in Fiestas.

There are 78 entries for the gravel event, including 21 in the WRC 2 support category. They include Norway’s Eyvind Brynildsen in a Skoda Fabia R5 and Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy runner-up Tom Cave in a Fiesta R5.

• Five-times British champion Jimmy McRae will compete in the supporting national section of the rally in a Vauxhall Firenza. The Scot made his event debut 39 years ago and twice finished third, in 1983 and 1987. His return to the event celebrates the 20th anniversary of son Colin’s 1995 world title, which he secured on the British event.

• Japan’s Kohei Izuno will pilot a Toyota Yaris ahead of a more comprehensive WRC programme in 2016. Izuno, who will compete in Europe for the first time, won his class in the WRC’s New Zealand round in 2012.
