Ogier on top after dramatic Sweden opener
Latvala, Meeke and Neuville hit troubles
He was introduced to the television production team, visited edit suites and was shown how the daily and highlights programmes are put together.
A keen motor sport fan, Prince Carl Philip has competed in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship and tackled Rally Sweden's stages himself in 2013 when he drove a classic Porsche 911 ahead of the historic class cars.
As Duke of Värmland, the region which hosts the rally, he said he had a special affinity with the event.
"It's great to be back. I love this race and it has been good to watch the guys driving around in the forests and then the production behind everything here at rally headquarters," he said.
"We have been crossing our fingers that the weather would come, and it did. The organisers have done a great job and have ensured that the rally went ahead - giving the spectators what they want to see."
And after seeing the WRC stars in action he didn't rule out a return to the stages himself. "Driving in the historic category here in Värmland was a lot of fun but difficult on my first time. I really want to do it again!"
