Mikkelsen kicks off Swedish sales
Minutes after celebrating on the podium, Mikkelsen sat his colleague down and promptly shaved off all his hair!
The duo made an agreement at the start of the season that Browne (above, right) would lose his curly brown locks when Mikkelsen secured his first win aboard Volkswagen’s Polo R WRC – something that happened last weekend. To mark the event, members of the German-based team donated money to a charity of Mikkelsen’s choice.
And the moments leading up to the spectacular head shave have been captured by WRC Live presenter Becs Williams in the latest Regroup Podcast that is now available in the media/podcasts section at wrc.com.
During his interview, Browne describes his feelings after seeing Mikkelsen finally break his WRC duck. He said: “I just can’t believe it. Things probably won’t sink in until Rally GB.
“We were targeting some events this year like Sweden, Poland and GB. We were really strong there last year and we were thinking these are the ones he could win. But this is completely unexpected. Watching the live TV, we just couldn’t believe what was happening.”
When asked about the imminent prospect of having his head shaved (above), Browne was philosophical. “I don’t think I’m going to have much choice,” he admitted. “I would like to keep my hair and I’m pretty sure my wife would like to keep it. But it looks like it’s going to go tonight.”
The latest Regroup Podcast also features interviews with Mikkelsen himself, as well as Volkswagen Motorsport boss Jost Capito.
