Pärn heads DMACK’s Fiesta fight
Rally Poland marks the second round of the Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy
The 22-year-old Estonian was fastest on nine of the 22 speed tests at LOTOS 71st Rally Poland to win by 30.0sec and extend his championship lead to 19 points.
Pärn’s win follows victory at the opening round in Portugal. Second there was Britain’s Tom Cave and he again followed Pärn home in Poland, setting four fastest times during the four-day gravel event.
Spain’s Yeray Lemes finished a further 2min 47.3sec behind in third to move into third in the title race, eight points behind Cave.
Quentin Gilbert was the early leader but the Frenchman crashed heavily on the second day.
José Suárez held third for much of the rally but retired with a broken engine after a pace note error led to him rolling. In a bizarre twist Marius Aasen collided with Suárez’s car as he attempted to rejoin the track and was sidelined with broken front suspension.
Finland’s Max Vatanen finished fourth while Pole Szymon Kornicki made the most of his local experience to take fifth. The top six was completed by Lebanon’s Nicolas Amiouni.
All 12 starters were in identical Ford Fiesta R2 cars which were powered by sustainable race fuel for the first time.
