New quattro date for Latvala

Jari-Matti Latvala will compete in the International Lausitz Rally in Germany later this month in his classic Audi quattro A2.

The Finn owns the A2, which is built to full Group B specification. He drove it to victory at the Lahti Historic Rally in Finland in August, a week after his success in the country’s WRC fixture in his usual Volkswagen Polo R.

“The Audi Quattro gives rally fans real goosebumps because it was as spectacular as it was successful in the 1980s. Sitting behind the wheel is a real pleasure,” he said.

The rally on 29 - 31 October, a week after the next WRC round in Spain, comprises 18 stages and about 180km of mostly gravel roads.

The Quattro A2 won nine WRC rounds from 18 entries in 1983 and 1984. Stig Blomqvist won five events, Hannu Mikkola three and Walter Rohrl claimed one success. The car was eventually replaced by the quattro Sport.
