Mud forces cuts to Argentina marathon test

Rally Argentina’s (23 - 26 April) keynote 56km stage has been shortened after heavy rain left roads near the start impassable.

Thick mud early in Saturday’s test from San Marcos to Characato has forced organisers to cut the opening 14.27km from both the morning and afternoon passes. The start has been moved forward and the stage will now be 42.50km.

Changes have also been made to Friday’s stage from Villa Bustos to Tanti, which has been reduced from 20.31km to 19.71km.

The fourth round of the FIA World Rally Championship will now feature 315.96km of competition instead of 345.70km.

More than 30cm of rain, a third of the area’s annual rainfall, fell in the rally region in just 12 hours in February. The devastating floods damaged 1500 homes and forced more than 1000 people to leave their houses.
