Andreas Mikkelsen will join Esapekka Lappi on the entry list for this summer’s WRC promotional event at Shell Helix Rally Estonia (12 - 14 July).
The Hyundai Motorsport driver, who enjoyed a welcome return to form by finishing second in Argentina last week, will drive an i20 World Rally Car at the gravel road encounter to prepare for the WRC round at Neste Rally Finland three weeks later.
Like Citroën Racing driver Lappi, who committed to the event last week, Mikkelsen believes southern Estonia’s fast roads will provide ideal preparation for the WRC’s speed-fest in Jyväskylä.
“Rally Finland is such a special rally, being so fast and the roads are so wide, that going to Rally Estonia will be great to get into the rhythm on very similar conditions,” he said.
“It might be a bit more sandy in some places but still I am sure it will really help our Finland venture. I have done a rally in Estonia back in 2006 and have not been there in a really long time and I really look forward to it.”
Earlier this year Estonia’s government pledged its formal support for the rally, in a country which is one of the championship’s fan hotspots, as an Official WRC Promotional Event.
