Mid-season moments: Part 4

Before the second half of the season kicks off at Neste Rally Finland [28 - 31 July] we are asking for your help to rate our top five moments of the year so far.

Today and tomorrow we'll present our two final nominees before giving you the chance to vote for your favourite from Tuesday (19 July).

Our fourth nomination takes us back to May, when Citroën's big hope for 2017, Kris Meeke, returned in style.

Mid-season moment 4: Meeke's winning comeback

Returning to the WRC at Vodafone Rally de Portugal after missing the previous two rallies in the Americas, Kris Meeke shook off the rust to win by 29.7sec in Citroën’s DS 3.

It was the second success after victory in Argentina last year for the Northern Irishman who is driving a part-programme in 2016 as Citroën develops a new car for 2017.

He took the lead in the second stage on Friday and remained troublefree on the rocky mountain roads in the north of the country, making the most of clean, grippy conditions courtesy of a low start position and measuring his pace through the final day-and-a-half.

“It was nearly a perfect weekend, a text book performance. This year is all about gathering experience and I couldn’t have done any more. We’ll use these rallies this year for our benefit and try to mount a title challenge next year,” said Meeke.
