Michelin brings new asphalt range to France

The WRC’s top drivers will use Michelin’s new range of asphalt tyres for the first time in competition at Rallye de France-Alsace (2 - 5 October).

The French company, which supplies all the WRC’s leading teams, has upgraded its Pilot Sport rubber in both soft and hard compounds to add to the wet weather version that was available for the first time at last month’s ADAC Rallye Deutschland.

The new S4 (soft) tyre, for cool and damp conditions, and H4 (hard) rubber, for warmer and drier weather, have a new tread pattern and a revised construction which reduces their weight by 0.5kg per tyre.

Michelin says the H4 will last up to 10 per cent longer than its predecessor while tests of the S4 showed a performance improvement, even with significant water on the roads.

Michelin has updated its entire range in recent rallies, with the LTX Force gravel tyre used for the first time at Neste Oil Rally Finland.
