Matton questions lack of Poland test

Citroën Racing boss Yves Matton has called into question his team's decision to not hold a pre-event test for last week's 72nd LOTOS Rally Poland.

His comments came after a poor weekend for the French squad, when Kris Meeke finished seventh overall and Mads Østberg was ninth.

Both drivers struggled to get the most from their DS 3 World Rally Cars on the Polish stages. Meeke was caught out and rolled attempting a fifth practice run at the pre-event shakedown, while Østberg said he had been shocked by the high speeds after his last appearance in the car in Sardinia and spent much of the event making set-up adjustments.

"We can’t be especially pleased with the result," Matton acknowledged. "Perhaps we underestimated the impact that not organising specific, pre-event testing would have on this rally."

"We’ll now focus on preparing for Rally Finland, an event where our drivers have already shown that they are capable of producing good performances."

Citroën Racing have confirmed that they will hold a Finnish test the weekend before Neste Oil Rally Finland, which starts from the town of Jyväskylä on 30 July.
