Johnson crowned eSports WRC Champ

A fortnight after Sébastien Ogier wrapped up this year's FIA WRC drivers' title, German gamer aTTaX Johnson was crowned the inaugural eSports WRC World Champion following a nail-biting finale at Dayinsure Wales Rally GB.
Johnson came out top of 18 finalists at the competition's concluding round on Saturday 29th October, to scoop the first ever eSports WRC trophy and a brand new Hyundai i20, worth €20,000.
WRC 5 players from all four corners of the globe converged on the Rally GB service park for the championship decider, where they contested two heats over six special stages of Wales Rally GB.
The top three players, TX3 Yggrasil (France), GTPL_Kolsa2 (Poland) and Johnson then took their seats for an intense title showdown on three of the hardest stages from the game.
After the first stage, Yggrasil led, followed by Johnson (+0.145sec) and Kolsa (+1.126sec). On the second stage, Yggrasil spun in the last corner and conceded the lead to Johnson.

Yggrasil and Kolsa pushed hard in the last stage, but Yggrasil attacked too much and made a second mistake in the final corner and Johnson clinched the crown by more than 3.5sec to bag the top prize.
Runners-up Kolsa and Yggrasil won prize bundles that included an official WRC Playseat and Thrustmaster wheel and shifter kits.
The eSports WRC competition will be back in January 2017 for a second season, with the brand new WRC 6 game, which was released on October 7th.
