Hyundai prize for eSports WRC

The winner of the 2017 eSports WRC will collect a top prize of a Hyundai i20 road car worth €20,000.

Tournament organisers announced the prize, and 2017 season partnership with Hyundai Motor Company, after the fourth round of the eSports WRC Championship, run in parallel with the Che Guevara Energy Drink Tour de Corse earlier this month.

The deal marks the second time that Hyundai has rewarded the eSports WRC Champion. Last year, German gamer Attax Johnson beat 17 finalists at Dayinsure Wales Rally GB to scoop the first ever eSports WRC trophy and a take the keys of a new Hyundai i20.

“We are very proud to partner and work with Hyundai for a second year in order to propose the best online experience to our players,” said Benoît Clerc, head of software at WRC 6 developers, Bigben Interactive.

“With their involvement in motorsports and especially in the WRC, Hyundai proves that innovation and performance are part of its DNA and it’s essential for us to associate with such a leading and inspiring company,” he added.

With four rounds of this year's WRC 6-based eSports WRC complete, Speedbooster27 heads the standings on 76 points - three ahead of TX3_Nexl in second place.

Rallye Monte-Carlo winner Hesto is third on 67 points with virtual Corsica winner Jonno five points behind in fourth. With nine rounds remaining, last year's winner Attax Johnson lies in 13th position on 24 points and has work to do if he's to park a second Hyundai in his garage.
