Hyundai eyes podium hat-trick in Mexico

Hyundai Motorsport is heading to Guanajuato Rally Mexico, the scene of its debut WRC podium in 2014, with another podium goal in mind.

The team will aim to make it three in a row for the New Generation i20 WRC, after claiming top-three results in the opening two rallies of the season.

Third place for Thierry Neuville [above] in Monte-Carlo and second for Hayden Paddon in Sweden were the squad's first-ever back-to-back podiums, and Hyundai hopes to continue the run on the rally where Neuville memorably finished third in 2014 with his radiator topped up with Corona beer.

This week Neuville and Dani Sordo will drive under the Hyundai Shell World Rally Team banner while Paddon will represent the Hyundai Mobis World Rally Team in a third 2016-spec i20 WRC.

Team Principal Michel Nandan said: “Our team heads to Mexico with a lot of positivity after the performances so far this year.

"At the same time, we know that this rally will offer a new set of challenges and demands on our New Generation i20 WRC cars and the team itself. We will have to wait and see if we can challenge for the podium again but that’s our objective."
