Who is your favourite 'Flying Finn'?
It's time to vote on wrc.com
In the run-up to Neste Oil Rally Finland we put forward six Finns who have made their mark in the FIA World Rally Championship and asked you to vote for your favourite.
And the colourful Grönholm, who won the drivers’ title in 2000 and 2002, topped our poll, with almost one in three of you voting for him.
The results were:
Position | Driver | Per cent vote |
---|---|---|
1. | Marcus Grönholm | 32% |
2. | Tommi Mäkinen | 22% |
3. | Juha Kankkunen | 19% |
4. | Mikko Hirvonen | 13% |
5. | Markku Alen | 9% |
6. | Hannu Mikkola | 6% |
Grönholm claimed 30 WRC victories from 152 starts, placing him second in the all-time list.
Malcolm Wilson was Grönholm’s boss as the Finn led Ford to back-to-back manufacturers’ world titles in 2006 and 2007.
“Marcus has to have been one of the most committed drivers I have ever worked with. He was exceptionally quick, but his biggest asset was his ‘never-give-up’ attitude. He could have a mishap, but you knew he would be fully committed into the next stage, no matter what,” said Wilson.
