GB and Italy win environmental plaudits
Dayinsure Wales Rally GB and Rally Italia Sardegna have become the latest WRC rounds to achieve high-ranking environmental standards with the FIA.
The British round was awarded the top level Achievement of Excellence in the FIA Institute’s Sustainability Programme, while Italy’s fixture was granted second-tier Progress towards Excellence.
Auditors were impressed by the environmental policy and management team at both rallies, while Britain’s detailed monitoring system excelled. Italy was praised for including all event stakeholders in its environmental management.
Garry Connelly, FIA Institute deputy president and environmental ambassador, congratulated both rallies. “Rally events take place in settings that present unique challenges to motor sport stakeholders when it comes to the environment, so this is an impressive accomplishment.”
Six WRC events have now achieved accreditation in the programme. Kennards Hire Rally Australia and Rally Sweden have achieved excellence, while Vodafone Rally de Portugal and Neste Rally Finland were awarded second level status.
