eSports gamers set for Portugal qualifier
Video gamers from around the globe are gearing up for this week's virtual Vodafone Rally de Portugal and the last chance to qualify for the first semi-final of this year's eSports WRC.
Thirty-six players representing 16 different nationalities have already qualified for the first semi-final, which will be played out during Rally Italia Sardegna. This weekend another nine will make the cut, with three each from the Playstation®4, Xbox One and PC platforms.
The setting for the Portuguese challenge is a 3.99km virtual version of the Baiao stage. The all-gravel test features rocks, deep ruts and ditches to test car control, while technical choices in areas like tyres and ride height will be crucial.
The weekend’s final will be broadcast live on Twitch on Sunday 22nd May, from 1600hrs (GMT+1).
eSports WRC brings the best WRC 5 drivers together for a tournament that runs from January to October, in parallel with the 2016 WRC season.
After 10 qualification rounds and two semi-finals, the grand final will take place at November's Wales Rally GB where 18 finalists will fight for the title and a prize Hyundai i20 worth €20,000.
