Capito makes Volkswagen farewell

Volkswagen Motorsport has confirmed that this weekend’s ADAC Rallye Deutschland (18 - 21 August) will be its final round under the leadership of team director Jost Capito.
The McLaren Formula 1 team announced in January that Capito would join as chief executive officer but would remain with the German WRC squad until a replacement was found.
Capito will formally leave Volkswagen at the end of August but is expected to attend the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa with McLaren on Sunday 28 August.
Volkswagen has still to confirm who will replace Capito and an announcement was expected at ADAC Rallye Deutschland. However, a team spokesman said Volkswagen’s focus for the weekend was on the team’s performance in the rally and no replacement would be named.
He said the new incumbent would take up the position at the beginning of September.
Capito masterminded Volkswagen’s entrance into WRC in 2013 and led the team to three consecutive drivers’ and manufacturers’ titles with Sébastien Ogier and the Polo R.
