Gilbert's plan for the double in Wales

After wrapping up the Junior WRC last month, Quentin Gilbert is targeting the WRC 3 title on the upcoming Wales Rally GB (12-15 November) - and he has an ambitious plan to achieve the double.

The Frenchman will start in Wales with a 19-point lead in WRC 3 over sole remaining title rival Simone Tempestini. The championship will be his if he finishes no lower than seventh in class, regardless of what Tempestini does.

But rather than play it safe, Gilbert is out to dominate in his Citroën DS 3 R3T, with the aim of rounding off a season that has featured five Junior WRC wins from six starts. Having completed all his scoring rounds in the Junior category, he wants to beat all his rivals one last time.

"Okay, the main objective is to win the WRC 3 title, but I want to do that by taking maximum points, and that means finishing ahead of the Junior drivers again," Gilbert told wrc.com. "So far it has been a really good season, we have done a good job so I'm feeling confident."

And given his past form on Welsh mud, Gilbert has good reason to look forward to the championship's final round. "This will be my third time in Wales. I won my class on my first time in 2013, driving a DS 3, and last year I did some really good times in an R5 Fiesta. It's true to say I really like this rally."
