Alberto Heller dominated the WRC 2 category on the opening day of Kennards Hire Rally Australia, winning six of the eight stages to hold a commanding 20.6sec lead over his brother Pedro.
The Chilean, competing in an M-Sport Ford-entered Fiesta R5, was rarely troubled on Friday as he delivered a faultless performance on the New South Wales gravel.
His older sibling Pedro, also in a Fiesta, went quickest on the final test of the day - the second run of the Destination NSW super special stage - but was powerless to stop Alberto from pulling away.
He did however, open up a comfortable 38.8sec gap to Armin Kremer. The German, competing in his first rally of 2018 in a Skoda Fabia R5, won the first pass of the super special stage in Coffs Harbour at the end of the day but couldn’t close the deficit to the pair ahead.
Rounding out the WRC support category entries was former Production WRC champion Gianluca Linari. Competing in an older-spec Subaru Impreza, the Italian had a clean run through the stages to finish 7m 12.3sec behind Kremer.
