New highlights show for WRC 2

WRC TV will provide standalone highlights of the WRC 2 action from all future rounds of the FIA World Rally Championship following a surge in entries for the series’ principal support category.

Starting at next week’s YPF Rally Argentina (21 - 24 April), the story of the weekend’s WRC 2 battle will be told in a bespoke round-up available to broadcasters within hours of the Sunday finish.

Additional highlights can also be accessed via the WRC’s YouTube channel, the WRC+ interactive digital service, on wrc.com and across the series’ social media platforms.

WRC 2 is regarded as the final stepping stone to the World Rally Car category and drivers including Robert Kubica, Eric Camilli and Stéphane Lefebvre have progressed via that route in recent seasons. The 2016 title battle is currently led by Welshman Elfyn Evans.

The category features R5 cars from the world’s leading manufacturers, including Citroën DS 3, Ford Fiesta, Skoda Fabia and Peugeot 208 T16. Entries have increased consistently in the last few years and topped 60 drivers in 2015.

“Rising entries and increasing fan interest in WRC 2 reflect the popularity and importance of the WRC’s support championships for drivers, teams and their commercial partners,” said WRC Promoter managing director Oliver Ciesla.

“The increased appeal is further indication of the positive development of our sport. As the European gravel rallies approach, where entries are traditionally at their strongest, we’ve been encouraged to offer fans more opportunity to enjoy the excitement of WRC 2.” 

In addition to the new programmes, fans can enjoy more WRC 2 content on WRC+ here, including a dedicated section featuring highlights of the category at all 2016 rounds. And since last month’s event in Mexico all WRC 2 drivers can be tracked in real time via GPS through every stage of every rally on the popular live maps feature. This is supplemented by live timing, live text and live radio.
