Hyundai R5 breaks cover at French test
New car on track for summer 2016 debut
Giordano will drive a Peugeot 208 T16 in the WRC’s principal support championship for Sébastien Loeb Racing, which is also supporting Terry Folb in the Junior WRC.
Giordano, who finished fourth in WRC 2 at Rallye Monte-Carlo in a DS 3 R5 run by PH Sport, will begin his alliance with Loeb at Rally Italia Sardegna in June. He will also compete in Poland, Finland, Germany, Corsica and Britain.
After finishing fourth in the Junior WRC in 2014, Giordano stepped up to WRC 2 last season.
“We know Quentin as he ran with the team in the France Championship last year and I had the opportunity to accompany him at tests,” said nine-time WRC champion Loeb. “The opportunity arose to put this programme together and I’m pleased to see the project get off the ground.
“Like Terry, Quentin has the advantage of previous experience in the category. He showed potential last season and more recently in Monte-Carlo. We must allow him to take the next step and perform well. He has the speed and the Peugeot 208 T16 is a competitive car.”
Giordano will also tackle several French rallies and his first appearance with the squad will be at Rallye Epernay - Vin de Champagne (1 - 3 April).
“When I knew the team was working on a rally programme, I immediately told Sébastien I wanted to be part of it,” said Giordano. “We used to mix and he has helped me for over a year at rally tests. I also discovered how the team works. Its approach is very serious, very meticulous.
“I had great times with PH Sport, which allowed me to progress and without whom I would not be at this level today, but I feel a programme with Sébastien Loeb Racing can allow me to take a new course. Seb’s contribution is unique and I can learn more.”
