Abbring to debut i20 R5 in public
The Estonian will take the place in the team of Sander Pärn who failed to finish the two rounds he started this season in Sweden and Portugal.
Kruuda will drive a Ford Fiesta R5 as part of a two-car team along with last year's Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy Marius Aasen. Kruuda will compete in Sardinia, Poland and Finland before Pärn rejoins the team for two events later in the year.
“Sardinia has always been one of my favourite events and it’s good for us that we have some shorter stages on Friday to help get back into it," said Kruuda, who last tackled a world championship event 11 months ago when he drove a DS 3 R5 at Lotos Rally Poland.
"It’s been a couple of years since I’ve been in a Fiesta but this is a great opportunity and I’m working hard now to make the most of it. Ott’s [Tanak's] speed in Portugal shows the new tyres are good and we will try to prove this also in WRC 2,” he said.
Dick Cormack, DMACK managing director, said: "Karl is a great addition to the squad and I’m confident he can help showcase our products in WRC 2.”
