Tänak eyes strong Sweden run
Estonian aims to reproduce 2014 pace in Sweden snow
Tyre manufacturer DMACK, the defending WRC2 Teams World Champion, will field two Ford Fiesta R5 cars in this year’s championship, with Ketomaa kick-starting the action at Rally Sweden next week.
Pärn will join at Vodafone Rally de Portugal in May, when he begins a prize seven-round programme for winning the 2014 Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy.
Ketomaa, who is co-driven by Kaj Lindstrom, finished runner-up in Sweden last year, and is hoping DMACK’s latest tyres will give him something extra. “We have a strong base to work from with the success of last year,” he said. “DMACK has been working hard on testing and, from a driver’s perspective, it will be a boost to have some newly developed tyres this year. I’ve been working hard over the winter to improve the Sweden winter tyre and it feels really good.”
Ketomaa’s Fiesta R5 will be prepared and maintained by Autotek and he’s set to take on Rally Mexico and Rally Argentina straight after Sweden. After that, the spotlight shifts to Parn’s debut in Portugal - the rally where his three-event winning streak in the Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy began last season.
“I’m really looking forward to the step up from the Ford Fiesta R2 to the Fiesta R5,” said Parn, who is co-driven by Welshman James Morgan. “I’ve already been testing and I was surprised how easy the car was to drive but obviously we need more experience to be able to drive it near the limit. Moving into WRC 2 and working with M-Sport and DMACK will make it a fantastic year for me.”
