Evans set for Monte-Carlo and Sweden

Elfyn Evans will contest the opening two rounds of the FIA WRC 2 Championship in Monte-Carlo and Sweden with a new co-driver at his side.

He has been confirmed in M-Sport’s new evolution Ford Fiesta R5 and will be partnered by Craig Parry, who replaces Dan Barritt after three seasons alongside the Welshman.

Evans was dropped from M-Sport’s 2016 WRC line-up after two seasons in favour of rookie Eric Camilli. He has been registered for WRC 2 points and it is understood a more extensive programme could be confirmed for him in the WRC’s principal support category.

After more than six months’ development on the Fiesta R5’s engine, M-Sport has increased its power by more than 30bhp in an effort to rival the Skoda Fabia R5, which won four times in eight starts last season. Further updates in March will include rear aerodynamics and suspension.

M-Sport boss Malcolm Wilson said Evans’ experience would help showcase the upgraded car.

Elfyn Evans - new chapter for Welshman

“Launching the new evolution Fiesta R5, we were eager to have an experienced driver behind the wheel and I believe Elfyn will do a great job of proving the extent of our upgrades,” he said.

Parry has 37 WRC starts to his name and guided Tom Cave to second in the Drive DMACK Fiesta Trophy in both 2014 and 2015.

“I would like to thank Dan for what has been three great years of co-operation. His knowledge and experience has taught me a great deal and I’m extremely grateful for all he has done.

“Now it’s time to start a new chapter with a new co-driver and I’m looking forward to working with Craig as we look to achieve our shared goals and ambitions. This programme will allow me to continue my development as I gain further experience of the FIA World Rally Championship events,” said Evans.
