Barbados outing for Evans

Elfyn Evans will supplement his WRC 2 challenge by headlining next month’s Sol Rally Barbados (3 - 5 June) in a Ford Fiesta R5 Evo.

The M-Sport World Rally Team driver will prepare for the popular asphalt encounter by competing in the warm-up King of the Hill hillclimb the previous weekend.

Evans, who tops the WRC 2 standings by 20 points ahead of next week’s Vodafone Rally de Portugal (19 - 22 May), will drive John Powell’s car in the Caribbean fixtures. Powell has won three events in the Fiesta in his native Trinidad and Tobago this year.

“There’s always a lot of competition and the event attracts a lot of top-specification cars, so we’ll have to wait and see what happens. But, if there is a possibility to challenge for the win, we’ll certainly give it a go,” said Evans, whose opposition includes ex-Ford works driver Simon Jean-Joseph in a Focus RS World Rally Car.

“This really is a unique opportunity to experience another new and very popular event. I’m sure it will live up to the expectation and I’m really looking forward to sampling the atmosphere first hand,” he said.

The rally covers 24 stages and 119.70km of action.
