Holiday meeting leads to Fiesta R5 drive
The reigning WRC 2 champion had planned to start his 2016 WRC 2 campaign in Mexico, but pulled his Skoda Fabia R5 entry at the last moment this week to focus on his parallel career as a world-class sport shooter.
Al-Attiyah has represented his country in the last five Olympic Games, most recently securing a bronze medal in the men's skeet event at the 2012 games in London.
After securing the WRC 2 title in Spain last year, Al-Attiyah pledged to defend his title in 2016, however wrc.com understands that he has been instructed to give priority to preparations for August's Olympics in Brazil.
