Koci takes emphatic JWRC win in Finland
Slovakian led from start to finish
First taste of asphalt for JWRC contenders
Stéphane Lefebvre and Martin Koci have been the men to beat in the opening three gravel rounds of the FIA Junior WRC and they will hope to transform their loose surface form to asphalt at ADAC Rallye Deutschland (21 - 24 August).
Lefebvre (pictured above) claimed maximum points in Portugal and Poland while Koci took top spot in Finland earlier this month. However, the switch to asphalt hands an opportunity to those who are more experienced on this surface to get back into the title fight.
Frenchman Lefebvre leads the Slovakian by four points and their closest challenger here could be Christian Riedemann. After missing Rally Finland through injury, the German can call on experience from three starts on his home rally, including a WRC 3 podium last year.
Third and fourth in the championship, Quentin Giordano and Alastair Fisher, also have good chances. While the Frenchman will tackle the German roads for the first time, Fisher has competed here twice before.
Two youngsters with great promise make their JWRC debuts. Emirati Mohammed Al Mutawaa, who leads the FIA Middle East junior standings, and Eric Camilli, winner of France’s Rallye Jeunes young drivers’ programme in 2013, join the series for this fourth round.
There are 10 drivers in the line-up, all at the wheel of Citroen DS3 R3T cars.
